How to type a double macron over letters?

Is there a way to type a double-macron over two letters, to show the sound of oo in moon? The extended keyboard has only single macron over single letters.

(I also haven't been able to find what this symbol is called, tho it appears in several dictionaries.)

And though I suspect Tom will wince over the following, one can place a faux-macron over two letters using the Pages equation editor:

\overline{\textrm{oo}}

The issue I observe in Pages v10.1, even with Automatic capitalization turned off in System Preferences Keyboard Text, and in Pages itself — is that the first entered o, followed by the double-macron, and then the subsequent letter o will present with the first letter o larger than the second. This does not occur when using Courier, or Helvetica though.

With Courier regular, and then Helvetica regular

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the Pages equation editor and the line of text that Viking OSX mentions, or using the U+035e system that Tom mentions. However, I did find this process that works for me, at least in Times New Roman:

In the Character Viewer, find the "combining double macron," and save it to Favorites.

In the document, open the Character Viewer. Type the lower case "o" and then hit alt/option, then in Character Viewer, double-click the combining double-macron; that puts the combining double macron over the o and the next as-yet empty space.

Then type the second lower case o and it appears under the overhanging line of the combining double macron, putting the line over both letters.
