Other Storage overwhelming my 64GB iPhone 8Plus

I have a 64GB iPhone 8. Other storage has devoured 41GB and I can't figure out how to empty it. I've already deleted Safari history and website data, deleted big photos, deleted apps. Seems like every time I delete something, "Other" eats it up. HELP!

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 13

we do see an increasing number if these posts lately.

The "Other" is supposed to be managed automatically and erased by iOS when space is needed.

The remedy is tedious and should only be done if you get out of phone memory messages that stop you doing something.

Remedy:

Use a computer to Backup then Restore the phone.

Remember this means setting up banking apps etc.

I would wait til you get an error.

thanks! was able to factory reset my iPhone and the other problem obviously went away. Unfortunately, my messages did not upload to iCloud before I reset it even though it previously had said 10 gb were in iCloud it only shows 1 gb now. I have all my messages on my Macbook Pro, is there anyway to get those messages into the cloud? I am worried pressing sync now on messages on my Macbook Pro will delete all the messages and replace them with the ones on my now reset phone (very few messages) because that is what it did for two conversations.

As you found out, using iCloud as a connection mechanism does not backup anything unless you opted for a full iCloud backup on a regular basis. SMS were always designed to be fleeting simple messages and the most vulnerable of all media, but you should be able to recover older ones by restoring from your most recent iTunes backup.nnYour SIM provider may have a method of recovery.

I would backup the Mac before doing anything, and trawl through your texts on there for any information you think you need.

The mission of the thread was to get an overwhelmed un-backupable iPhone to save as much as possible before getting it working again.

Please feed back your experienced to the link ProustGiulio gave you so that the developers can be aware of what looks like a growing problem.

I'm having the same issue and MORE! iTunes says my 64 gb iPhone 8 plus has 22 gb of "other" and my phone says 15 and when I delete photos/messages etc other just gets larger. I am having trouble backing up my iPhone because I ran out of iCloud storage (already upgraded to 50 gb) and it says my macbook pro doesn't have enough space even though I believe it does.

That has also been noticed by supporters, if the "Other" gets too big then backup is not possible.

The extreme measure of manually importing photos and other media, documents etc into your Mac/PC, and using alternative cloud backups for WhatsApp etc may be needed.

Once your data is safe somewhere you need to do Settings, General, Reset, Erase all content and settings. And start again, Restoring backups may restart the bloat.

Senior supporters are still trying to understand why Other in some cases is not self-managing,

People hate it when I say "I don't have this problem", my Other is steady at under 4GB, but then I keep away from News apps, games and social media altogether.
