I somehow came across random photos and gifs that I did not download on my Mac. can I delete it or is it part of something I need? BTW there's nothing in. iCloud, I just got my comp and my Apple ID is new too.

Those gifs and json files are tiny. One email attachment would dwarf them. If you delete them you risk breaking somethng. Old rule of thumb: never delete anything you didn't put there and/or don't understand what it's for.

No idea what they are for but I have them too.
That Mackintosh HD is part of the System files that you and I have no write access to, so you can assume they are safe.
But it is taking up my storage!
