iMessage Issues

Earlier today, my iMessage service started acting up. These are the things that have happened:

  • My blue text bubbles automatically were undeliverable
  • My text bubbles are now green although iMessages in settings is turned on
  • I’m unable to send anything in a group chat

I’m still able to receive messages from others, both individually and in group chats. I’ve tried multiple things to try and fix it:

  • turn my phone off then back on
  • turn iMessage off then back on
  • turn iMessage off, turn phone off then on, turned iMessage back on
  • reset network settings
  • erased and restored my phone

None of these seemed to work, and I wasn’t able to find any issues similar to this searching through google. My friend said this happened to her once, she did all the things I did and was even sent a new phone because support thought it could have been the phone. That didn’t seem to be the issue, but then her messages were returned to “normal” a couple days later. Does anyone have an explanation as to why this happened all of a sudden and is waiting it out a couple of days the only thing left I could do?

Thanks in advance!

Hello marksori267,

Thanks for posting on Apple Support Communities. It seems that suddenly you either can't send a message via iMessage or send group messages. You've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already and the issue persists. When you restored your iPhone previously, did you set it up as new or restore it from the backup? In order to further narrow down the issue make sure to set the phone up as new. That way you eliminate the possibility of restoring a software issue back onto the iPhone. Also make sure your software is up to date. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Otherwise, we suggest you check out this resource for some other troubleshooting steps:

Cheers!
