What do you mean will it work the same?
It will work the same way it does not. You will not magically get 5G data speeds. iPhones don't have 5G hardware in them. You will continue to get LTE data speeds.
It will continue to work as it has up until today.
You just won't get the 5G speeds. Your phone will continue to make calls and get messages and connect to the internet as it has in the past. It will just not be at 5G speeds is all.
Ok so my original question stating that we would have to buy a new I phone that will have 5G capability. That would be something Apple would have to give us credit for if we recently purchased an 11 and is still under warranty unless they can do an update to the hardware so we could receive the benefit of 5G without spending another $800 on a new phone.
No credit.
This has happened the same way every time there is a transition. There's a time where there are phones tha do not support the newer tech and must be replaced.
If you needed 5G, you should have verified what you were buying supported 5G. Apple did not lie to you. They never told you it would support 5G.
Why exactly do you need 5G? Is 5G even avaialble in your area at 100% coverage? Can you use 5G currently in your area in more than a handful of locations?
If you want to access 5G data speeds, yes.
5G networks will be backwards compatible with 4G/LTE devices. Your phone won't stop working just because your carrier put in a 5G network.
October 2020.
But will it work the same as any other phone that uses 5G?
Apple is not going to give you credit.
The new iPhones will have a 5G modem. Older models can not be upgraded.
I’m certainly not going to spend another $800 on a new iPhone when the one I have is only six months old. We will have to wait this one out for now. Thanks for all the help.
