iOS 13.6 bugs

The last few updates to iOS 13 have given quite a number of bugs that require me to restart my phone often. The new one introduced with iOS 13.6 is the data bug with browsers when on LTE or 5GE on AT&T. It won't connect unless I restart my phone but I don't know what triggers the bug since it seems to be random. When connected to wifi the issue isn't there.

One that's been constant is with the lock button on the side of the phone. I normally hold it down to activate Siri but instead it brings up the power off, emergency call, medical ID slide bars, and disables faceid. This one goes away with a restart as well but comes back randomly.

One that doesn't go away at all is with messages, the notifications don't work like they used to. When I tap on a message to go to it in messages it takes me to the list view of all my messages. When I get roll over bars and tap on those they just dismiss and don't take me to the message.

I was debating updating to iOS 14 beta to see if those bugs go away or as much as I don't want to, reinstall iOS 13.6 through finder, restore my backup, and hope for the best.

Hi there, CrashingEchelon!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you're having multiple issues with your iPhone since upgrading to iOS 13.6. Based on what you're describing, it would be a good idea to be sure there is not a software issue as the root cause of this for you.

Let us know the results and have a terrific day!

This sounds like a hardware issue, as the behavior you’re describing normally occurs when pressing and holding the side button (as you are doing) along with one of the volume buttons.

I am using iOS 13.6 and AT&T and have never had this issue. I am in a 5GE area.

Regarding the data issue, I wonder if you’re using some browser other than Safari. I have only used Safari and had no issues. But I believe someone here recently reported an issue using Google Chrome. (I have an iPhone 11 Pro.)

Regarding the hardware issue, if the Apple Stores are closed, you could still get service remotely, but you would have to part with the iPhone for a while.

It happens with any browser for me. Pure browsers I have on my phone like Safari and Edge have the issue. Then Apps like Pokemon GO that use my google account to sign in kick me out because it can't reach the server.

I'm probably just going to try to the restore option and see if that takes care things before I head to the Apple Store or send my phone off.

I wonder if the Apple Store could tell me if something is wrong with the button. With the way things are right now I know going to the genius bar may not be an option and I need to check if stores are open in my area. Either way my AppleCare expires at the end of December and the issue isn't a deal breaker.

As for the data bug my wife got the same one too on her iPhone XS Max and I'm using iPhone XS. We're both on AT&T and we got our phones a few months part.

I wanted to do this as a last resort measure. Somethings I'm curious about with restoring my phone. I have my back up in iCloud but I have a lot of Apple Pay cards set up and other things that I know don't get backed up to iCloud (unless that has changed).

Would you suggested doing an encrypted backup on my Mac or just going the iCloud route since everything is ready to go. I just want it be the least painful way.
