You would have to get the model or build number from the SuperDrive and try to identify which Macs it is compatible with. While there may be some contributors on these forums with that knowledge (or some websites) you will most likely need to contact Apple support directly and hope they can tell you.
If you are connecting the SuperDrive directly to the Mac with an official Apple USB-C to USB-A Adapter (or perhaps an official multimedia USB-C Adapter) without any hubs or docks, then you will need to figure out if the SuperDrive is compatible or contact Apple support. I've tried in the past to look for Apple documentation for their SuperDrives, but I cannot find any.
I have seen official Apple documentation on this matter several years ago at least for the then current model of SuperDrive. I've seen other information on Apple fan sites and forums over the years (it is very hard to find).
It may be easier to just purchase a third party external optical drive. Most quality third party optical drives shouldn't have these compatibility issues.
