Import DV Media from Canopus ADVC-300 A/D Converter into FCPX 10.4.8?

Dusted off my Canopus ADVC-300 A/D converter to import a few old family VHS stragglers. FCP recognizes the Canopus, but when I select it in the Media Import pane, the browser doesn't show the video playing on the VHS. The video plays just fine, though, when I do the same thing using iMovie 10.1.14.

I realize I can just import with iMovie, but in the past I used older versions of FCP without a problem.

Can FCPX 10.4.8 import the digital DV output from a Canopus 300?

iMac 2017 27-inch, Mojave 10.14.6
