SSD for mac mini 2009

Hello, Will a samsung 860 ssd work in the 2009 Mac mini? Would I be better off going with Crucial? I've been searching this and I get yes and no replies. Someone said the Samsung will only work from 2010 to 2012 mini. And will any 2.5" ssd drive work in any computer that accepts 2.5" drives? When I search on crucial they ask for what year and processor size, what gives? Thanks for your help!

Yeah, those are good SSDs. I have put PNY SSDs into more than 7 different year model Mac Mini’s and iMac’s. The oldest PNY SSD is our Mid 2010 Mac Mini. I put a 320GB PNY SSD into about 5 years ago and it is still going strong today. I also have 2 Late 2012 Mac Mini’s, one has dual 480GB PNY SSDs and the other has an 960GB PNY SSD.

The 2009 Mac Mini only has 3G SATA ll and some 6G SATA lll SSD don't play well on SATA ll. Although IMHO because it is getting on in years, it is really not worth spending a lot of money on to upgrade.

If you go to > https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/ssd/owc/mac-mini/2009/server you will notice that they have 3G SSDs for the Late 2009 Mac Mini. Plus in addition to the OWC video, you can Google "iFixit Late 2009 Mac Mini" for a good DIY.
