If you search the forums you'll see that this problem is widespread. It's present across a huge swath of both factory and aftermarket car stereos as well as USB non-mobile docks and speaker systems. Basically anything using USB is affected by this problem, though obviously not all systems are affected.
Similar problem here.. though I have the old IDA-X001 (Alpine actually says HU is not compatible with Iphone, but worked somehow in the past <OS4.0).
That past days I had frequent distortion like a scratched CD.. so I switched to A2DP streaming.
Because of the better quality I tried to go back to USB connection. I had 4.1 on the Iphone4, connected to HU and it complained of "not beeing designed for iphone" but worked.
I still had these random distortions as if the stream got corrupt from time to time. FFWD or skipping to a new song often helped.
I installed the 4.2 GM on the Iphone yesterday. Thought it might fix these issues.
The situation now is that my setup completely refuses to work: I connect the Iphone, the message pops up "..not designed.." on Iphone. IDA-X001 goes to "SEARCHING".. then couple of seconds later "IPOD ERROR" and Iphone pops up a new (never before sees message) "The accessory is not supported"
That's it. Tried reset of both units, entering Ipod app before/after etc... None cured the problem.
So as the status of 4.2 is golden master, that means there likely is no change before it goes live anymore.
So I have a problem too. I considered to drop the HU and get a newer model officially supported, but almost none of the vendors have experience with iOS4.2 and from what I read here, there are likely more/similar problems with a new HU too (like IDA-X305)
I purchased the CDE-103BT yesterday and have the problem with both my iPhone and iPod Classic 80Gb. One gives me Error and the other Unit Error. Has anyone tried their iPhone with the *just released* iOS 4.2? I'll be trying it tonight.
I upgraded to ios 4.2 yesterday, was so happy to stream from my iphone4 to my airport! Then I started my car this morning and connected my iphone to my Alpine iDA-x001 as I always do, but this morning: no music anymore > "ipod error".
Now I have music at home but not in my car... I'm pretty disappointed.
I hope it will be fixed VERY soon!
After emailing Alpine UK support and getting the normaly "it's not our problem", then emailing Apple and got the same response from them, I decided to start looking at this myself.
I have a Alpine CDE114BTi stereo running with 3GS (MC131B) and IOS 4.2.1 (8C148a) and can't get the thing to work. When I plug the iPhone into the car stereo I get a "This accessory is not optimized for iPhone" error and then the stero reads "searching" and that's it.
I've done the normal hard resets on head unit, iphone etc.. even factory reset the thing!!
I then tried a friends iPhone running the same IOS and same iPhone part number and it works without any issues. There's no differences in software either... I even removed the playlists incase one song name has a character that's not supported... I'm pulling my hair out with this one and have no help from either Apple or Alpine.
Has anyone seen these issues before?
I have the same issue with my Alpine IDA-X100, it was working perfectly unto I downloaded the new update last week, now an error message just comes up on the screen saying device not supported. I will keep looking for a solution and if I find get it working will post on the forum, please post if you also find a fix
Greetings from Mexico, I just buy the X305SBT unit and I'm trying to use it with an IPhone IOS5... Getting the same error "USB Not Supported" Can anyone advice in case of fix? 😮
