I can't rename my home folder. It appears in gray so I can't select it.

You do it very carefully, as it changes the path to every single file and if you get it wrong it's a nightmare.

Before even attempting this change make sure you have a good verified working backup as you will most likely end up losing access to your data (at least temporarily). These forums are filled with posts where users missed a step and had to jump through a lot of difficult hoops to get back their data.
AFAIK you can easily & safely change the long or full name without a problem (please correct me if I'm wrong). You just need to be extremely careful to follow the instructions in the linked Apple article exactly when changing the short user name of the account. As someone else mentioned is the short user name really that annoying to risk breaking your system even temporarily?
I already saw the link. It doesn't let me rename even after selecting and pressing return or force-clicking.
Did you notice the part about doing this from another admin account?
You are setting yourself up for big trouble.
Why do you want to change the name of the home folder, anyway?
