My device has been found and removed from my account, is there any hope of ever finding this device using the serial number or IMEI number?

No. Unfortunately, you fell for a scam; the message you received that your device had been found was to trick you into removing it from your account. If you provided your Apple ID and password change the password IMMEDIATELY before your Apple ID is hijacked.

Thanks Lawrence for your quick response no one asked me for my apple ID and password or even my pin.
My device was stolen, I set it to notify me when it connected to the internet. Since it was offline it couldn't be located for a couple of days, but yesterday I got a notification of its location and in about 6 minutes from the time I got the notification in mail and SMS, it vanished from my devices list and account. I didn't share any details at all.
The only way that could happen is if your Apple ID was hacked. So change your password.
