Question

Mail Drop Not Working

I send photos frequently by Mail Drop. Recently when I attempt to do so, I receive a message to the effect that, "Cannot send files by Mail Drop. Try again later." I've tried later many times, I've rebooted several times, but the problem persists over the past week or two. Anybody having same problem or know a fix?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! It seems you're unable to send photos using Mail Drop on your Mac.

Check out the limits within the following article: Mail Drop limits - Apple Support

"Attachments might not be sent using Mail Drop if they exceed these limits:

The message, including its attachments, is larger than 5 GB. Try sending the contents of your message in multiple email messages or compressing your attachments to make them as small as possible.
An uncompressed folder is attached to the message. Use these steps to compress your attachments.
Too many messages have been sent or the maximum number of recipients has been exceeded. Learn about mailbox size and message sending limits.
You reached the 1 TB Mail Drop storage limit. Each attachment expires after 30 days, so you can send new attachments after earlier attachments expire and more storage becomes available."

I may have stumbled onto a solution! When the window appears saying the message is too large to send by Mail Drop, I clicked OK then click Send again. The message then was sent without any problem!

None of my attachments exceed the 5 GB limit. I have subsequently tried sending photos one at a time, and they go through without problem. I guess doing that is somewhat of a solution, but it is certainly more convenient to send several in one message as I've been able to do in the past.

Now it appears that I did not find a solution. The recipient said the photo files she received were not full-sized after all. Still in need of a solution if anyone has one.
