Edit Hosts file with TextEdit

Is it possible to edit the hosts file using TextEdit in High Sierra? I can edit it using terminal nano. I tried to open TxtEdit in nano and then edit it but got the message that I did not have permission to do it.

BBEdit 13 is not compatible with Mac OS 10.13 according to the app store. I am at the last OS I can upgrade to. I will stick to using the nano editor to edit the hosts file now that I got the hang of doing it. Thanks for your reply
