itunes match is not syncing on ipad

I have tried searching for an answer to this issue and done everything suggested but I still can't get iTunes march to sync new music to my iPad/iPhone AppleTV and Macbook.

My Music library is on an external drive attached to my iMac. I subscribe to iTunes Match, but all recent additions (about the last month) to my Music library on the iMac are not syncing to my other devices.

I have logged in and out of my account etc etc, still no updates.

Any suggestions? Please assume I have done all the simple stuff.

See Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music - Apple Support - the process is the same for iTunes Match. Older versions of iOS use the term iCloud Music Library rather than Sync Library.
