No I did not purchase with Apple.

Regardless, it is a "protected" mp4, at least that is what the extension (and lock) imply. I don't think anyone else uses m4p besides Apple.

Did you change the extension?

If it is not a DRM'd music file, but the OS thinks it is because of the m4p extension, it may be trying to validate the authorization to play it on that device and can't because it isn't DRM'd.

"When I click on it it does nothing. doesn’t open doesn’t ask me for a password. I’ve also checked my administrative properties and I am admin. WTH?!?"

Try This:

  1. Hold Down: control button and click the item. (a popup menu comes up, which is the same as right-clicking on it)
  2. Click: "Get Info"
  3. Unselect: "Locked"

These are Encrypted Files:

Clicking on them, do you get prompted to enter a password? If so, these are Encrypted. That would mean you would likely need to open using the correct password, perhaps, even, on original device these were encrypted with (if they were encrypted using third-party security software).
