How can I make the key board larger? I liked it before the last update..

Oh. You have enabled the floating keyboard. See this link --> Use the floating keyboard on your iPad - Apple Support

The update didn't change the size of the keyboard on iPad. What is the size you are seeing on your device?

The keyboard previously was from side to side at bottom of screen and NOW is only 2” x 2” and covers what I am typing!
