Reboot causes DNS reset to 127.0.0.1 every time

Every time I reboot my 2019 MacBook Air running Catalina, my dns settings change to 127.0.0.1 instead of using the dhcp setting of 10.1.1.1 given out by the router. I notice when I go into the dns network settings that the address of 127.0.0.1 is dark, unlike the gray address via dhcp, which shows almost as if its underneath as I hightlight the dark address and remove it. 10.1.1.1 is always there after removing the incorrect address. Until I remove this address I am unable to resolve anything.

I tried removing the connections as well as resetting all the network connections. I've racked my brain and searched high and low to try and figure out why its doing this but haven't had any luck in finding a solution. I'm hoping somewhere here can help. Thank you.

Have you tried removing the WiFi or Ethernet connection from Network Setting System Preferences and adding the device back in? I would recommend rebooting after removing the device before you re-add the device. You can also try using Network Locations for testing purposes.

Add Network Devices (cannot find article to delete/remove device, but I think you can figure it out from this article):

Network Locations:

Have you tried creating a new user account to see if the same thing happens?

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?

Are you using any anti-virus, third party security, or VPN software that may be interfering? Run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

I finally figured it out. After reading your reply, I realized I hadn't run EtreCheck in a long time. After running it, I could see that there were leftovers from an installation of NextDNS, which I had tried briefly a few months ago. After removing this culprit, things are working as expected.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!
