When I try to open iphotos it will not open.

I have updated my Mac with the recent version and it will not allow me to open Iphotos.

It also was not on the dock, and i dragged the app as a icon from the desktop to toe dock and is now there, but will not let me remove the icon from the desktop.

When it tries to open the icon bounces a few times and never opens a page.

I also tried to use the restore option with option/command and it will click but still no window opening.

I have not used the mac for a few months while moving and now it is not working for me.

I am running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

I tried to update to Catalina to be the same as my mac air and it says it is not able to but when i look in to system requirements i cant find anything?

I realize that there may be more then one issue here, and I appreciate anyones help.

Did you have an alias to Photos saved on your Desktop? The version on the Desktop may still be linked to an old version of Photos that will no longer run on the current system Version. Each system update will install an updated version of Photos, because Photos is a part of the system.

Try the following:

  • Restart the Mac to finish all running photo processes you may have started.
  • Open the folder Applications and find Photos for Mac there.
  • Double click Photos in the Applications folder to launch it.
  • If you can launch Photos this way, Ctrl-click the icon in the Dock and got o "Options > Keep in Dock".

Are you trying to use the same Photos Library on your iMac as on your MacBook Air with Catalina? That will not work, unless you are using iCloud Photos Library. Macs with different system versions can share the library in iCloud.

The Hardware requirements for Catalina are here: macOS - How to Upgrade - Apple

  • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013 or newer)

I do not intend of having anything on the desktop, but when trying to get it to work or even show on the computer I dragged it to the desktop and now when I try to remove the icon and just leave the one on the dock it ask to permanently delete it?

I tried to open it ** going to search, photos, and it came up with 2 of the same. One was under applications so I clicked it and it opened correctly, but I do not believe it has all of the photos I use to have on the computer, but it does have the current from my iphone and is up to date.

When I look in the applications folder on the dock it does not have photos in it? I can only find it by doing the search option.

Maybe that has to do with the icloud photos you mentioned?

Thank-you for your help!
