Open a non Apple application in Catalina

I have a Logitech Internet "Squeezebox Boom" radio which can no longer access the latest application it needs to work. I have downloaded Logitech Media Server Installer package 7.7.6. containing 49.2 MB which clearly shows up in Finder Downloads when I click on "Details". However it will not install because I understand that the Apple Privacy and Security system won't allow it as it has not come from the Apple store. I gather there is a way around this, but can't find what it is. I am running Catalina 10.15.6. on my iMac.

I have seen a couple of solutions using Terminal, but they apply to older OS X systems, not Catalina.

Can anyone provide me with a step-by-step solution that this 85 year old can follow to get my Squeezebox Boom working again?

I have now found a "workaround" on iMore.

I open Terminal, key in the command syntax sudo spctl --master-disable , hit Return which gives me the following:

Last login: Mon Jul 27 16:10:16 on ttys000

The default interactive shell is now zsh.

To update your account to use zsh, please run `chsh -s /bin/zsh`.

For more details, please visit https://support.apple.com/kb/HT208050.

Allens-iMac:~ AllenHull$ sudo spctl --master-disable

Password:

However there is a 'key' shown after "Password:" (which failed to transfer when I copied and pasted this entry above) and which I assume means I am locked out from making any changes so I am unable to enter my Admin Password and can go no further.

Grateful to know how I can move to the next step.

I've made some progress but LMS still won't install. I followed the instructions and installed /bin/zsh. Then I opened Terminal, entered the command syntax > Return > Admin Password > Return.

Next I opened System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Tapped the lock > Entered my password > Chose ANYWHERE under "Allow apps downloaded from" (which was not available previously) > Clicked the lock to keep the change. I noticed however, that the contents of the window changed to grey.

Tried installing the LMS package once again, but same old problem. Message came up showing that "The installation was successful. The software was installed". Upon closing that, a new window "Logitech Media Server" pops up. Clicking on "Start server" just reverts to "server stopped". So near and yet so far. What to do?
