Software update is blocked because of STATA program that does not shut down.

Hi guys,

I am trying to update my Macbook Air to macOS10.15.6, for this the macbook needs to restart. However, when I try restarting my computer all other programs have to shut down. The problem is that one program on my Macbook does not shut down and I am not able to stop the program(it concerns STATA, a data analytics programs) via the conventional methods. Because of the fact that it won't shut down I cannot update the software on my macbook. Has anyone encountered this problem before and knows how to solve it?

Kind regards,

Boris

You can force quit the App from the  drop down menu>Force quit

or reboot into Safe boot mode to run the update

SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.
