Auto download and sync podcasts to Apple Watch?

I have a number of podcasts set to download new episodes, and I have them set to sync with my apple watch (iPhone 11, apple watch 5). The problem is that when the show up in the podcasts app on the iPhone they have the little cloud next to them and I have to click on that for the podcast to download. Only then can I sync it to the apple watch.

Is there a way for the new ones to actually download each day and sync to the apple watch? I know they both need to be connected to power to sync.

Meetoo,

Thank you for replying back with the updated information around what you're seeing with turning on Background App Refresh.

Using Low Power Mode would turn off the Background App refresh setting. Below is a resource that can provide more information on what features Low Power Mode will reduce or affect:

Thank you! I went through the steps as you outlined. In trying to turn on Background App Refresh I discovered that this cannot be turned on in Lower Power mode, which I always use, always. Does this mean I will not be able to automatically download podcasts?

It sounds as though Podcasts are not automatically downloading to your iPhone. You’re in the right place, we’d be glad to assist in seeking a solution.

Let's start with some basic steps that can help. First, let's check to see if the software on your iPhone is up to date (iOS 13.6)

On your iPhone, tap Settings > General > Software Update. -Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If everything is up to date, let’s try these steps next:

On your iPhone, tap Settings > Podcasts > Download Episodes and choose Off to turn off automatic downloads. -Listen with Apple Podcasts
Also be sure that Background App Refresh is enabled there as well.
Restart your device. -Restart your iPhone
Turn the setting for automatic downloads back on and check to see if the issue is resolved.
