You cannot turn it off completely and instantly, but get rid of the memories over time. There are three ways to get rid of memories:
- You can disable the Holiday Event memories from being created. In the Settings > Photos scroll down to the memory Section and turn off Holiday events.
- You can block a memory, to prevent further memories of the same kind, but it will not ensure that other memories will be created. Whenever you see a new memory, block it before you delete it.
- Tap the For You tab, then tap a Memory.
- Tap
, then tap Block Memory. - Then tap Delete Memory
- Photos need something to go on, to create memories. It seems to prefer photos with named people in them, that are connected to the Contacts, so it can find out, how the people are related, and it is looking for interesting places.
I am getting a lot of memories named "On this day", "In Nature", "at the Coast", "Exploring" and outings with different people or "Together". If you do not name the People or or if your photos are not tagged with GPS, it will be harder for Photos to find candidates for Memories, but it will make it harder for you to find photos as well. Try to decrease the flood of Memories by blocking and deleting each kind of Memory.
