I have an imac 2020 which I wish to use as a target display with a macbook pro 2016.
I have attempted to connect the two with a thunderbolt 3 cable but no duel screen is recognised by the macbook pro. Running Catallina on both devices.

The "No support" for late 2014 and newer iMacs is in the "fine print"
as a footnote in the table.

Target Display Mode does not work with iMacs newer than Late 2014.
that's painful especially because the sales rep told me this is possible with models 2017 onwards
What sales rep was that?
Who was the retailer?

the guy specifically went away to get a response and came back and said 'yes sir model from 2017 support that feature'
There is no 2020 iMac btw.

really disappointed with this wondering what the rational is behind it.
The cynical in me makes me wonder if it's to encourage sales of LG 5k monitors
