phone shattered. need to backup but cant. sim card? help??

I am getting my phone replaced and I am supposed to back it up but I am unable to.

I have a tremendous amount of content on there that has yet to be backed up.

If I take out the sim card will I be able to save everything?

I am unclear what to do and I am at the stage where they want me to erase my phone in order to get a new one.

You are in a bit of a pickle, so to speak.

If you have a backup file somewhere then you are fine. If you do not then you will not be able to backup your iPhone because it is "broken".

Question - Do you use iCloud for Photos, Texts, Calendars, Contacts, Reminders etc? I think I know the answer to this but am asking just to confirm. If you use iCloud for the above things then that information will be easy to retrieve on your new iPhone. If you do not then you will lose everything.
