Unable to install fonts

I am unable to install any of the fonts that I've purchased/downloaded from my preferred designer to Font Book. I've had several of these fonts previously installed on a PC, but getting them installed on my MacBook has been impossible. As this is my first MacBook, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

When I try to install, the installation progress bar appears and then immediately disappears without actually installing.
