You missed a step. You'll first need to put the iPhone into recovery mode before iTunes on the computer recognizes it.
Please follow the steps in If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support to put your iPhone into recovery mode and reset to factory settings.
ok I do know my code it must have done by accident. but its now in recovery mode. I held "home" button and now screen shows" iTunes" with charger w/ small arrow.. whats next step
