Apple Intelligence is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac!

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Why is Apple Maps sending me notifications when I do not use the app, settings are set to only use location when using app?

Here is something I do not understand.

Every day I drive work and use Waze (and ONLY Waze) as the GPS, mainly for traffic routing, alerts and such. I do NOT use Apple Maps. Apple Maps location settings are set to use location only when using the app. Brand new iPhone 11.

iPhone gives me alerts around the time I leave for work, estimated time to arrival.

• I DO NOT USE MAPS, never used maps on iPhone 11 and never used it for the commute to work.

• Settings are set to only use location while using Apple Maps.

WHY THE **** IS APPLE TRACKING MY LOCATION AND GIVING SUGGESTIONS WHEN I DO NOT USE APPLE MAPS?!!! This is clearly Apple tracking the iPhone ignoring the settings on use of location, right?

What am I missing here?

Wish it were that simple. There was never a calendar entry made for this trip.

  • The drive is made most weekdays.
  • There was never a calendar entry or reminder set up.
  • Maps is set to use GPS ONLY when in use.
  • IOS 13 Maps now reminds me (with eta, etc) but I NEVER used maps, or any native iOS application for this task or trip.

As of now, this is Apple 100% stalking its customers without consent and going against their pledge.

Well, the point of this thread is not how to turn off notifications. it is about iPhone tracking its customers.

• Privacy settings have been set to location only when using maps, calendars etc)

• I never used maps on this iPhone.

iPhone sends message with directions to a location I visited recently. ..this comes across as tracking customers without consent.

Hello, PixelRogue1!

It appears you are receiving notifications for events added to your Calendar and when they are related to a location, it recommends and provides information using Apple Maps; when you normally use other third-party apps, like Waze for navigation. We believe we've found the reason this is happening and a way to solve it.

If you've added Calendar events using the location, the Calendar app uses Apple Maps to estimate the time of arrival and when it's time to leave: Create and edit events in Calendar on iPhone under section, "Add an alert" in the Note.

About privacy and Location Services in iOS and iPadOS under section, "How your device uses Location Services" talks specifically about allowing Location Services in specific apps. If you wish these alerts weren't related to knowing when to leave, traffic related information, or estimated time to arrive; then we'd suggest using section, "Turn Location Services on or off" in that link. Or you can remove the location from those events to prevent it from suggesting this or in Settings > Calendar > Default Alert Times > Time to Leave.

Wishing you the best!

Hey PixelRogue1,

We hear what you're saying and want to do our best to assist. Apple's privacy standards are pretty rock solid, so there must be a setting enabled or feature with access to location. If Maps or Calendar are not tracking unless the app is open, then this could be related to Siri Suggestions & Search.

Siri Suggestions, Search & Privacy allows Siri to learn how you use the device to suggest ways to improve your personal experience. If you receive this notification again, look at the information to see if it is a Siri Suggestion.

If so, you can disable this feature in Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Suggestions. There are three options: Suggestions in Search, Suggestions in Look Up, and Suggestions on Lock Screen. We'd encourage you to disable these features and test it out to see if that sorts this out for you!

Hope this is more helpful!

Hey there, PixelRogue1!

It appears you are still receiving these notifications or suggestions. Allow us to provide some additional help here.

In Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Suggestions, scroll down to Calendar and tap it. Then disable all of the features enabled here. Go back and do the same for Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Suggestions > Maps.

Then go to Settings > Notifications > Maps and disable Notifications from appearing and test it out.

With both of these features disabled, you shouldn't receive these notifications or suggestions.

Hope this does the trick for you!

iPhone does not track its “customers”. Apple does not track its customers. The only one who sees that information is the user of the phone, meaning you. No one else in the world has access to the information that it displays.

Why is Apple Maps sending me notifications when I do not use the app, settings are set to only use location when using app?
