Cannot use brand new, reformatted WD Elements drive.
I bought this one because Time Machine stopped backing up to my smaller EHD.
Same error: "could not create a local snapshot."
Help?

is the internal disk on your MacBook nearly full? That could be the reason
I’m pretty sure this was the problem. For a 4 gb update it required 48 gb free space... seems weird, but deleting stuff from my Mac did the trick. I needed to do that anyway, but wanted a backup BEFORE I deleted things... oh well!
How did you format it?
Must be Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
