what the “instant message” field under a contact?

Hi all,

I recently opened a contact and noticed there was a new field labeled “instant message” with a strange number below it, when I click it, it does nothing. It showed up randomly. I checked my other contacts and no one else has it. Does anyone know what this is?

"phonenum-berxxxxxxxxxx" appears unexpectedly when searching for contact in new message Today I searched for a contact with "ph" in their name from the Messages button, as I wanted to send them an iMessage. Two legitimate contacts appeared, but I also saw another item that shows the person icon on the left with "phonenum-berxxxxxxxxxx" listed as the contact. The x number listed is the phone number for one of my contacts with a name assigned. The phonenum-berxxxxxxxxxx entry is not listed in my contacts. Any idea what caused this and how to get rid of it? Thanks!

What are these circle contacts on the top of Messages, and why are they slowly increasing in number? Pretty much what is says in the title.

Thank you for the response!

I didn’t add this myself so I’m somewhat confused, is there a way to find out where this number belongs? i.e. Skype, WhatsApp, google talk

“Instant Message” is one of many field types in Contacts. Look just above the keyboard here.

Perhaps composing a message addressed to that number will reveal the vendor.
