Original issue: After trying to clear cache I get the error message: The operation can’t be completed because one or more required items can’t be found.

(Error code -43)

  1. When following the steps for "If you can't empty the Trash on your Mac: Quit any app that you were using with the file, then empty the Trash. ( I do not know what file it is referring to and
  2. If that doesn't work, the app might have one or more background processes that are using the file. Restart your Mac, then empty the Trash. I opened activity meter and do not see any unresponsive processes

It would help if you could be more specific as to how you were doing what you did. Doing a Safe Mode restart (Hold down the Shift key on restart) will empty your cache and fix a number of things in the process, which can take up to 10 minutes. If you are still having problems, I suggest that you download, install and run the free (and safe) app EtraCheck and allow full disk access. Then you can post the report here under Additional Text. It will provide useful information that someone will review and then offer some useful ideas. Also, sometimes, simply restarting the computer makes a problem go away.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?


Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.


Do you have iCloud Drive enabled?
