I just updated to Catalina. Is there a way to disable the annoying menu that pops up when I click on the green button (I know it's only supposed to pop up if I hover over it, but it comes up even when I just click on it)? I already use bettertouchtool to control what the button does.

Thanks for the tip. I got this response on Reddit but haven't tried it yet.
Paste this in terminal and hit enter, then relaunch all apps.
defaults write -g NSZoomButtonShowMenu -bool no;killall Finder
I don't know how to turn off the popups. There may be a hidden preference to hide the tool tips. I couldn't find any references.
You can set up double-click the title bar to zoom in Dock System Prefs.
If you just click, it should go directly to full screen.
If you click and hold, it pops up the menu.
I have bettertouchtool set to make it zoom instead of go to full screen. If I hover over it (sometimes for a very very short time) without clicking, the menu pops up.
