Hi. I have this same issue, but have used some workarounds and have come to a result that works for me, and I've researched it quite a bit. There has been a lot of stuff written online about this subject, and I recommend a search, because there's a ton of stuff out there. The bottom line is that the built-in video camera on Apple laptops is not the most robust available, by far, but there are several steps one can take to make the camera work to its best, with our without buying additional equipment. Like the ones outlined by third party sources here, and here and here, just to name a few. The ones that have worked best for me are elevation of the lap top to just above eye level (using a stack of 4 solid, hefty sized books); ample, indirect lighting so that the face is bright and clear but not overly so; and making sure the background is neither revealing or distracting to convert a professional appearance. (Also, a strong, steady internet connection is key as well.). If you really need better quality video there are lots of modestly priced, though not cheap, third-party video cameras that you can connect that are full 1080p HD or higher resolution.

Hope this helps!
