Catalina upgrade has caused huge problems to my Mac. Help!

Hi there. I recently upgraded to Catalina and my Mac is no longer operating normally. It is very slow to respond and excel will not open. Please help as I need this urgently for work.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13

Catalina - installed by can't run Catalina shows as "installed" on my mac when I look at my app store. When I try to run this it simply doesn't go.
