Can't hear anything on iPhone calls

Hi! I have an iPhone 6. Very suddenly, I cannot hear the other person on a phone call, but they can hear me.

  • I cannot hear with my ear to the phone, or through the speakers
  • I tried to plug in headphones, and I still cannot hear the phone call through them
  • I CAN hear voicemail recordings
  • I CAN hear music, both through speaker and headphones


My husband's phone (which is on the same phone service plan) has no issues. And suggestions?

This is very helpful information. As we've isolated the issue to the audio in phone calls only, and found that it occurs regardless of which speaker you're using, or whether you've connected headphones, this indicates the root cause is in your cellular connection, which is provided and supported by your wireless carrier.


It sounds like your iPhone appears to be working completely as expected in all other apps and uses, so you'll want to reach out to your wireless carrier for further support at this point, and inquire about the information mentioned in this article, under the section titled, "Contact your carrier":


If you can't make or receive calls on your iPhone

A large number of users are reporting this problem on different iPhone models. I believe I have tried all of the suggestions that have been made in the responses to these low volume reports. I have to use the speaker to hear most phone conversations. I have reported this issue on the Apple feedback page. It would be helpful if you reported the problem there as well. That's the best way to report this issue. Apple does not monitor this forum.

It sounds like the issue is isolated to phone calls. Is this correct? Is it happening in all phone calls, or only with certain callers?


Have you had an opportunity to verify that the Volume up button works as expected while in a phone call? If so, have you restarted your iPhone since noticing this behavior?
