Can I import extermal subtitles to an iTunes rented movie?

I want to watch The Terminator. The movie is available on iTunes, but does not have Hebrew subtitles.

I have found community-made Hebrew subtitles online. Will I be able to watch the film with them?

I don't want to pay the money to rent the film unless I'm 100% sure I can do this.

Edit: alternatively, if I rent the movie, can I download it and play it in a different video player (like VLC)?

No, iTunes doesn't support downloaded subtitle files. Rented content is subject to DRM and can only be used with Apple's environment.
