iPad Pro 12.9 1st gen will not working with external drives

I have a 1st gen iPad Pro 12.9 running iOS 13.6. I am unable to connect any external drives. I have connected external power, reformatted the drives, done everything I can but it will not come up on my files app. I have an iPhone XR and all my external devices work on it so the connectors and drives all work on the iPhone. Any ideas? They do not list my iPad in the drop box so have put iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen.

Hello,

iPadOS supports the following disk formats with a GUID partition scheme:

  • macOS Extended journaled — YES Read and Write
  • APFS - Coming in iPadOS 14
  • FAT32 — SOME*
  • exFAT — SOME**
  • NTFS — NO

*iPadOS 13 supports solid state devices formatted as FAT32 such as a SD card. iPadOS 13 does not supports mechanical hard disks formatted as FAT32.

** iPadOS 13 supports disks formatted as exFAT as long as it was formatted with Disk Utility on a Macintosh. The disk cannot be formatted by Windows.
