Brother HL-3140CW printer stopped respoding after update from High Sierra to Mojave, iPhone prints fine

I was happy on High Sierra, Brother HL-3140CW connected via Time Capsule Wi-Fi and with USB if needed, iPhone also printed fine with Wi-Fi. I have had problems for years trying to get iTunes to sync photos from a folder to iPhone and now (again) the Apple Support idea was to update the macOS. Which I did and it did not solve the photo problem but gave me another one, printer does not work. I so saw something like this coming.

I have removed the printer (USB and Wi-Fi) profiles, installed the 10.14 drivers which went fine and the printer shows up in Printers, lights the green dot at the beginning and then goes amber. Nothing gets forward from Queue. Not even a test page. iPhone still prints just fine. I have switched USB cables, connected as directly as possible to my 2017 MacBook (USB-C hub with USB2-connector).

What is this? How come Apple update system destroyed a perfectly working print workflow? Brother page states that HL-3140CW is Mojave compatible. So far not.

The Brother HL-3140CW is an Apple AirPrint-enabled device. If it is not already installed as an AirPrint printer, remove the existing entry in Printers & Scanners, and add it again. You may want to reset the printing system which will remove all entries from Printers & Scanners. Then, refer to Add a printer on Mac. When adding the printer again, you must specifically choose AirPrint.

Do not install any drivers. No drivers are necessary. Remove any drivers you may have installed. Apple recommends that you do not install any drivers or other software from the device manufacturer.

Do not use any cables. No cables are necessary. Remove the USB cable from the printer and put it away. It is a relic from a bygone era.

And it prints! Thank you!

I found the IP address for the printer from my cooperating iPhone AirPort app (now I found out that it can also be found from the physical printer's menu system) and then went to IP tab in Add Printers, entered the IP address and selected AirPrint for protocol and AirPrint for usage (not sure if they are called exactly that as I am using non-English macOS). And that was it. All is well now. I cannot remember what was my original setup long ago with High Sierra but this fixed the issue for now. I do remember that then the wireless printing was quite slow when printing large documents , sending the data I mean and then I had used USB to get it done quicker.

I thought I would have "one more thing"... The firmware update but that went fine also wirelessly.

Many thanks. Your last chapter 🤣
