sudden increase in screen size

After setting up my mouse to enlarge the screen on my iMac by stroking the mouse I'm experiencing frequent sudden increases in the size of a webpage and I cannot recover the normal size. If I exit the site and reenter it appears in magnified form. How can I stop this happening?

iMac, macOS 10.12

Your browser, hold down the command key and press the minus (-) key.

Does this fix the problem? If so, does the problem return if you quit and re-run the browser?
