Make sure you had enabled location services in Mac / maps box , find My must be turned as on .

On the map, your friends are represented by orange dots  with their initials or profile pictures. Your location appears as a blue dot . The shadows around the dots indicate the location’s accuracy (the smaller the shadow, the better).

Note : in some countries the maps accuracy is not upto the mark ( as what observed ) , the nearer is iPhone to Mac the better services is provided , in suburbs the wifi signals generated from towers are weak even iPhone is connected with 4G .
