Restore files function on iCloud fails
I mistakenly deleted my documents on iCloud yesterday and the restore files function comes out with ''no files to restore''. How can I get my documents back pls?

I assumed it was the Files app (iCloud Drive) you were referring to which is why I used the term Recently Deleted. In any case, if it's the Mail app that you're referring to and emptied the Trash, then there's not way to recover those emails.

I am actually referring to the Files app (iCloud Drive), just learnt it has no connection with my trash.
So, I didn't remove the documents from the Recently Deleted Folder and at the very first attempt to Restore Files, I got a reply of "There are no files to be restored"
Any idea why Im getting this response? Is there another way of restoring them pls?
If you already removed the documents from the Recently Deleted folder, then they are irretrievable.
I actually deleted my trash. Is there any difference?
Are the files still visible in the Recently Deleted folder?

Then there's nothing to recover as per the message you received - "There are no files to be restored". Sorry.
