iTunes message says I need a software update for iPhone to be recognized

I'm running Mojave and very happy to keep running it. At this moment in time, I can't risk a move to Catalina. Is there a way for me to get my iphone to be recognized in iTunes so I can load music files to the phone?

Thanks (sorry if this is old news, I just keep using stuff until it breaks and then call for help. Which is lame.)

Thanks for your reply Mr Hoffman. When I encountered the issue yesterday, A pop-up window informed me that I needed an update to connect my phone. In what now seems like a senior moment, I assumed they wanted me to update to Catalina. The pop-up was pretty vague and made me suspicious. In the end, I activated the "Install" option from that pop-up and the issue was resolved. Had the language included words to the effect of "iTunes needs an update to blah blah blah" I would have used the link immediately.

Thanks again.
