Question

Trying to log into new Mac with Apple ID but it keeps asking for a verification code but I don't receive it on other devices.

How do I get apple to send a verification code to another phone number? The one on file is no longer my number--it's from an ex-employer. I also have an ipad logged into same Apple ID but it is running iOS 9.3.5 so it's not receiving the verification code.

I figured it out. Added another number to trusted numbers from my ipad.

You need another trusted device or telephone number.

See Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support:

A trusted device is an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9 and later, or a Mac with OS X El Capitan and later that you've already signed in to using two-factor authentication.
