macOS Catalina - 2 disks?

Hi!

Why, after upgrading to the Catalina, my startup disk was divided in two pieces? Look at the picture:

Mac mini 2018 or later

Disk utility showing two volumes on ssd I'm in the process of doing a clean install of catalina. I booted from my USB install disk and erased the startup volume. When I go to install Catalina I am given a choice of two startup volumes, one a mirror image of the other. I'm attaching photos of how this looks. Change of Startup Disk from external to internal I recently mistakenly upgraded to Catalina. I have 2 external HD attached to my Mac for storage. Apparently, the MAC chose one of my external HD as it's Startup Disk thus making working a LOT SLOWER... How may I change the startup disk back to the internal HD?

Catalina partitioned my hard drive I have two iMacs, both 2019. After recently installing Catalina, I noticed that on one of the iMacs, the hard drive had 2 partitions, and on the second one there were 3 partitions. Is this normal? Can I eliminate the partitions? The partitions are named Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD Data.

It is perfectly normal. Catalina has one disk which is the System disk which you cannot modify in any way,

and there is the Catalina - Data disk which contains your own data.

First one contains your operating system.

Second one is user data. And seems that it's a way macOS will work in Big Sur and so on..
