iPhone 11 contacts no longer recognised

For no apparent reason, my text messages and phone calls are displaying as numbers instead of the contact names. In some cases it guesses the contact as "Maybe xxx?" and allows you to add the number to their contact card, displaying the +44 prefix instead of a 0 (essentially the same number is then listed twice) - What is going on?
