Quicktime Player

Why has Apple decided to take away the speed controls from the quicktime Player? What was the purpose? This issue is not addressed at all in Support. In healthcare we are not that sophisticated about understanding software, but we do watch a lot of scientific technical video. Adn we watch much of it in slow motion and on a loop. The community has suggested I download ther VLC media player, which I have and it works really well and is easy to use. I am disappointed as it looks like Apple has given up on Quicktime. And because Quicktime lacks so many different controls, I will not stream it to my Apple TV with AirPlay. Any reason they have given up? Apple does not even suggest iMovie. If they suggested it I may have tried it, but they do not suggest it either. It never comes up in a search about speed control during playback at all.
