Unlock MacBook Air SSD

I have a SSD out of a MacBook Air belonging to a friend. The machine is dead, but I'm trying to retrieve her data from the drive for her. When I plug the drive into my Mac using a USB box, the system asks for a password, which my friend has forgotten. Is there any way to bypass this requirement? I'm running a MacBook Pro with Catalina 10.15.1. I don't know what her system was running. Help?
