You likely have your RAM installed incorrectly if you are only getting 2133 speeds. The correct method on 2020 27" iMacs to get all the DIMMS at 2666 speed is to install the original Apple supplied RAM in banks 1 & 2 and the upgraded RAM in banks 3 & 4. I have 40 GB in my 2020 27" iMacs (we have 2 of them) and when the RAM is installed this way all RAM works at 2666. If you need screen shots that show this please let me know.
The original Apple RAM can go in slots 1 & 2 and the upgraded OWC RAM can go in slots 3 & 4. The slots shown in your diagram show the slots to use. My photo shows the slots and RAM size in the photos and also shows the speeds of each DIMM.
mlsimmons,
Simple, the from the top...1,2,3,4:
Here are screenshots of mine:
I am planning on adding 16GB to the original 8GB - how do I determine which banks are which
Your welcome.
A special thanks to all for the quick answer and solution - there really should be more info from Apple that is readily available on this simple detail
Your welcome.
No... 4GB DIMM with 4GB DIMM, 8GB DIMM with 8GB DIMM is what they mean.
Then shouldn't the word "between" be "within" - clearly there is confusion with their words
Good point methinks...
Thank you both for your response. I'll go with the OWC then as they are all priced pretty close.
I installed a 63 g kit from Crucial along with the base 8 from Apple. No issues so far since I got the machine in August.
PLEASE look at the attached photos that will show clarification, if I made a type earlier mia culpa. By the way, it's rkaufmann87, not rkauffman87.
Sorry about the misspelling - my bad. So, should I install in 1 and 2 OR 1 and 3? I trust your opinion because you've done it successfully. 1 and 2 .... or 1 and 3? thanks
PLEASE look at the pictures!!!!!!! Can you not see them?
Great, this is now very clear - thanks much rkaufmann87 - and again, apologies
