New Mac Air - Can not edit Microsoft Office files

How do I transfer my old Microsoft Office from old mac book pro to new mac air without buying it again? I used the mitigation function and the applications transferred but I can not make edits and save unless I purchase a subscription. The icons have a strike through them. How do I access? Please help.

Older MS Office versions will not run on MacOS 10.15 Catalina. You need to use either Office 2019 or a Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) subscription to run Office on Catalina.

You could also consider free replacements like LibreOffice, OpenOffice, or Apple's own free suite (Pages/Numbers/Keynote).
