When phone charger is plugged in, audio has no sound

My phone audio will play through the car speakers just fine. However, once I plug the phone charger in, the audio has no sound from the phone nor the car speakers. I’ve checked the mute button on the side and I’ve also checked to make sure the Bluetooth connection is still good. Once I unplug the phone from the charge port, it continues through the car speakers again. How do I make it still play??

Hello stacinicole83,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! It sounds as though you're having issues playing music when connecting your iPhone to your vehicle USB port, however it works fine when using only a Bluetooth connection. We're happy to investigate this issue.

We recommend ensuring that both your iPhone iOS and stereo firmware are updated. You can use the article below to update your iPhone iOS. You'll want to check the owner's manual for your automobile or stereo system to confirm how to install firmware updates.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Have you reviewed the actions outlined in article How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car, under section: Connect using USB playback? If not, this is great place to start troubleshooting this issue.

Best regards.
